The city isn’t even nice, just built over.
I have to strongly disagree!
I was born in Ingolstadt and love my city.
We have a lot of green spaces, also in and around the city center (Glacis... the old fortress structure from past centuries has a positive effect here). Our city center itself is beautiful. The Danube meadows, old fortress installations, high density of pubs, cafés, etc.
What the city has to struggle with is (like every other city with thriving economic power) the uncontrolled influx drawn by the big companies (Audi/Media-Saturn/Cassidian etc.) and the resulting exploding real estate prices. Of course, private individuals often sell building land to general contractors who then slap a semi-detached house or a terraced house on a plot. There is a lot of construction and new building areas being designated in the more rural suburbs in the south and west of the city. Or settlement expansions. But this is limited too; our 1st and 2nd green belts around the city are worth protecting, some citizens’ initiatives and gradually also politics have realized this.
If you come via the highway and take the exit in the north to pick up your new car there: yes, then you don’t get a good impression of Ingolstadt. Gray on gray, blocks, lots and lots of traffic, etc... the same as in all bigger cities.
But: come to Ingolstadt and don’t just drive past! Or watch the city’s image films
