Sure, it's a matter of trust. Here the client has no other option than to check this statement against numerous references - if possible from recently completed houses. But even that gives no guarantee. The first architect we wanted to hire had about 10 references that spoke an exemplary testimonial. In the end, the architect had no time to hire us and kept leaving us hanging (fortunately at the beginning in the planning phase).Don't get me wrong. You are already several steps ahead. I meant it like this: When the architect gives an estimate and says "that's about right, since I know all the trades and know which prices I get"... at this point it is speculation. I am talking about the time when the contract with the architect is made.
