I honestly haven't really understood the added value of a cistern, except if it is very large. However, one must also admit that in this area the groundwater level is probably around 5-6m, so you could also drill a well, I think, and thus the cistern becomes obsolete... I once read something about 20l per week per sqm of lawn... That would be 7000l per week for an assumed 350sqm... That will be a big cistern then.
Since it's about 50:50 between "don't need it" and "makes sense," we will reconsider it now :)

I admit we first had a floor plan in mind, but the contractors can all only represent that unsatisfactorily; here you should definitely really build with an architect, I think, for that prefab house providers seem to be rather unsuitable.

Thanks again to everyone for the tips!
Does anyone still have an opinion on the question of strip foundation vs. slab foundation? Does it not matter which one you choose?

The benefit of a cistern is often not financially justifiable. But there are plenty of other reasons for it :). But the demand also varies greatly and thus the sizing of the capacity. With roughly comparable garden areas, for example, my sister manages well with just under 2m³ while my brother's 5m³ cistern is slightly undersized. However, different roof areas are also fed into the cisterns. The decision for or against strip foundation or slab is usually made depending on soil survey and structural engineer. Sometimes both are possible, then the price can decide. Familiarize yourself with terms like frost skirt, summer frost, and various types of soil (surveys) if you want to join the conversation and not rely solely on statements from the general contractor, structural engineer, or architect.

uhm… so again (for the third time?)
The cistern was necessary to let the rainwater seep away. It has no other benefits. It was REQUIRED. Or a natural seepage via a pond, depression… infiltration basin. You can do that too: 100sqm depression with stones and gravel, basically an infiltration basin.

If you can have a well drilled, then do that. With 3 weeks of drought you would already need a very large cistern. With the well you don't have to restrict yourself. Even under a slab foundation you need a strip foundation or a frost skirt. You have to lay the foundation frost-free.

Then I'll take a closer look at the foundations again, thanks for your help!

yeah okay if it has to be then sure, otherwise more of a "gimmick" understood

However: A well is by no means allowed everywhere. Also, the reasons for or against a well or cistern are sometimes completely different.
