We direct all the water from the roofs, terraces, etc. into the cistern. We also have a well that is pumped. The garden needs a lot of water. Fortunately, we have sufficient rainfall here, but when it is dry, watering with fresh water has sometimes been prohibited. Such a cistern helps with that. Lawns require about 15l/m2/week. With almost 1000m2, that is already 60m3 per month. In addition, there are hedges, trees, flowerbeds... with the well and the cistern we can bridge about 6 weeks of drought. Due to the size, we can also utilize heavy rain. Whether it pays off. Eventually, yes. But that was not the reason for the installation in our case. We could not supply the irrigation from the fresh water line due to the flow rates.
