You don't understand the construction industry. It's about principalities, traditions, lobbying, etc. etc. And that is defended with tooth and nail.
When politics gets involved, especially the world saviors, it becomes really terrible. Then I haven't even started with the Brussels club. As usual, it is only about one thing: money.

If we once looked beyond our borders, we would learn how building can be simpler and (!!) more cost-effective. And that, without making compromises.

But those wanting to build are not innocent either: come hell or high water, development plans have to be circumvented somehow, because you have to have something individual.

This forum, in particular, is also a prime example of expensive building. Standard is not good enough, no, there has to be more. Maybe it's time to go back to the roots again. And also be satisfied with 100 square meters once in a while...

I know this very well. I have already dealt with the construction industry professionally. Strong politics set the framework conditions that are beneficial for society. Exactly what that should be is open to debate. Capitulating to the lobby or simply running after it (because of the money) can be observed, but it is not desirable. Whoever claims that this cannot be changed has either given up, benefits from it, or is simply disinterested.

Fully agree. Serial construction is, by the way, such an example — and of course there are others as well.

That is somehow ingrained as an inherited dream of the economic miracle generation, I fear, as well.

I plead guilty. But I also waived any subsidies in order to build the way I want and gladly paid for it.

Completely agree. We live in a world of comparatives. It’s not about something being good; it has to be “better.” This leads to the spiral of ever-growing demands, and “normality” shifts from generation to generation. Meanwhile, this demanded “normality” is only affordable for a few. Instead of, as you suggest, finding a good solution externally and critically reviewing one’s own demands once, many simply whine at an objectively very high level. By the way, this phenomenon cannot be assigned to any political direction. In all camps, “the others” are blamed. Enemy images help two kinds of people especially: those who do not want to take personal responsibility and those who aim to gather the former behind them.

Building an argument based on a page of conspiracy theorists also says enough....

The many fancy pictures of dream palaces on the internet simply tempt people more than before.
In the past, it was mainly about size. Now it’s size, technology, and energy efficiency that drive costs upward.

Speaking of high construction/living costs:
Since I am currently dealing with replacing our outdoor water tap because the calibration period is expiring again.
In Germany, the calibration period for water meters is 6 years. In France, the USA, and Canada it is 17 or 18 years, and in Spain 23 years. I wonder if we have worse meters than the rest of the world.
Why does the state introduce rent controls while here useless additional costs are generated for residents and craftsmen are "blocked" with pointless tasks.

DWN is one of many publishers that have a permanently employed editorial team but no permanently employed journalists. They have, as they write, a "nationwide network of specialist journalists, photographers and video journalists." In other words: second-hand journalism. Under Frankel, DWN has become increasingly EU-critical and often rides populist waves. The other managing director Schmidt expresses himself personally on a network and self-publishing platform in a libertarian manner on economic and property issues. People who are close to the AfD will see themselves disproportionately often confirmed in DWN.

No, we don’t. However, a shorter calibration period reduces damage caused by minor manipulations. I am a volunteer board member of the water supply in our village and responsible for funding, quality, and billing. This also includes meter replacement. We replace a meter to be calibrated with a calibrated meter from the returns. As a rule, no new meters are purchased. The costs are low, under €50 per meter every 6 years. Despite having only about 320 households on the network, we have dealt with faulty meters that caused a theoretical overcharge in the four-figure euro range for our association member. We check the meter volume for plausibility and become alert if annual deviations exceed 15%. You can then talk in the village, and there is usually a plausible explanation. Deviations of 10% are accepted. For an average household with 4 people and average water and wastewater charges, this can result in a difference of 50-100€ per year. Considering this factor, I no longer find the 6 years so bad but rather a sensible consumer protection measure.
