Do we really drive highly individual vehicles, wear suits from the tailor, shoes from the cobbler, and are personally served by the chef every evening?

Nope, cars, clothes, shoes, and most food also come off the production lines of series or mass production in huge quantities.

Why should it be different with houses? Before I live in a rental bunker, I'd rather live in an off-the-shelf house. Or do you ride a bike when it's not enough for the [Brabus Komplettumbau]?

Exactly! No one could explain it when asked.

Very extreme indeed. Tens of hundreds of different models and then with different engines as well. Not to mention the equipment.
That is no longer possible with serial manufacturing.

It IS different with houses. It simply depends on individual wishes. There simply is no demand. Otherwise, everyone would be rushing to buy a terraced house. It’s like here in the forum. Every little detail in planning, color, mm-precise orientation, etc. is discussed over 30 pages. No matter that sometimes you should just get it done. You won’t get that out of people’s heads for the next decades either.
I have a serial builder among my customers. They don’t accept private orders. Too many wishes. And even small settlements of 10+ houses can be counted on one hand.
What works well serially are renovations. In just days, an entire street gets a new facade including windows (and possibly air-to-air heat pumps). Or apartment buildings (furnished living, students). Including already agreed repurchase prices for the steel structure of the house when demolished in 50-60 years. The structure can be directly reused. The modules of the apartments are refurbished. That all works really well and will in my opinion be the future of serial building. Not single-family house construction.

Does everyone drive an individual vehicle tailored to the needs of the individual, as is the case with the architect-designed house you favor? No. There are hundreds of models, but within the model series, every vehicle is the same. The navigation system in the Touran is the same as in the Golf, in the Tiguan, in the Polo, etc.

Serial construction will be the only way it remains or becomes affordable for the masses.

You have to reduce the hundreds of models to a handful. Does that work?

A huge misconception: the navigation system is approved once and that’s that.

But in Germany, we have 16 different state building codes, with hundreds of different building authorities. And each building authority has its own "quirk." So it is checked hundreds of times over and over again whether the navigation system is okay.

If building is to become simpler and affordable, then we have to start there. And not with all this green nonsense that has come up in the meantime.

Example: 2 weeks before Christmas, an expert opinion has to verify whether any little birds are nesting in the tree that has to be felled. Cost for the expert opinion: 1,800 euros.

Or: why is a TWP from SH, for example, not allowed to submit in Hesse? Meaning, he is allowed to, but the builder is still saddled with a structural verification. Cost: a smooth 4 grand. But a TWP from Thuringia is allowed to, without an examiner, because the two chambers cooperate.

The list of this nonsense can be continued indefinitely.

Serial building, just hearing that nonsense. What are Heinz von Heiden Town & Country and others doing? No, it has to be individual, down to the 45° corner.
