Long version will be on the blog in the next few days, here is the short version: We like the wood look. I probably would have stuck with vinyl as planned, but my girlfriend just couldn't warm up to it (Happy wife, happy life ;) ) and it didn’t help that the salespeople are always convinced that vinyl causes problems with large windows. Tiles are durable but rather uncozy, the wood-look tiles are incredibly expensive. There was also a "designer flooring" which, as I understand it, was basically a printed tile and too expensive for that. Then we considered cork, but that’s not really a look for the living room. And we didn’t want to introduce another flooring just for the kids’ room. Parquet is clear… real wood is great, besides the price it was mainly concerns about dents and oiling. We then asked around a bit, it seems no one really oils their parquet regularly. We want to at least do it somewhat regularly for the first few years. And dents can apparently be well hidden with sandpaper and oil, in rustic styles it’s also not quite as noticeable. We’ll just go for it now, no more kids are planned and we should be past the worst pretty soon. Here is the picture. In contrast to the carpet, it looks a bit lighter than it actually is
