The two mentioned dog breeds also voluntarily don't go up the stairs ;) Rather after hours than after minutes. At Sießl Franz.

Take a look at the popular search engine for "Parkett EICHE SELECT WEISS GEÖLT 2. WAHL", first result (after the ads). They have 2nd choice parquet, mostly from the premium parquet manufacturer Berg&Berg in 239 cm length, many finishes available. We ordered 10% more than the 1st choice and have really been happy with the choice. The 1st choice boards otherwise cost 80 to 120 euros/m2.

What does 2nd choice mean?

Do they already have flaws then?

Wearing layer: 2.5mm is sufficient?

The boards were sometimes "nibbled" on short sections or had defects in the first/last cm of the plank – you just use them as end pieces. But only a few planks were like that, which is why you buy one more package than with 1st choice; otherwise, I haven't noticed anything.

And if you're worried about defects, an oiled floor in "gespachtelt rustikal" (spackled rustic) is really ideal. Sanding or filling and then applying a little oil at the end, done. The more uniform the floor is, the more difficult that becomes, and doing touch-ups in DIY always shows a difference.

You have to like rustic style, of course, but it is also a very honest, low-maintenance, and lively floor.

Oiled simply means vacuuming and applying a soap solution damp every few years.

A bit tight for sanding. On the other hand, hardly anyone does that anymore, especially not with floating installation.

The condemnation of vinyl seems to me, for example, when looking at builder social media groups, to be more of a thing that mainly concerns this forum. I won't say more about that. Arguments have already been exchanged enough.

My own condemnation is already based on the fact that most vinyl floors I have seen so far try to imitate a wooden floor.

Instead of taking the natural original, plastic including plasticizers—especially phthalates—is used, which are rightly banned in baby products and on which toddlers then crawl and inhale at a low height, and then glued to the floor using adhesives containing VOCs. Often to be torn out again after 10 to 15 years and treated as hazardous waste. OK, the microplastics produced by abrasion in the years before then no longer need to be incinerated, that’s true: because they have long since migrated into soils, water, earth, lungs, and tissues. And the dioxin produced during the vinyl’s production at that time is something the consumer doesn’t know about either, but it remains detectable in the environment for centuries.

And why? Because you can save yourself some care and maintenance work...

PS: According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, hormonally active phthalates are "now detected everywhere in the environment." In Western Europe alone, the annual production volume amounts to around one million tons. More than 90 percent of this goes into the manufacture of soft PVC products like flooring.
