Are there no sporadic maintenance efforts? You always read everywhere that parquet must be oiled constantly.
Are there such "every year" or "every 3 years" additions?

I could imagine that we would have to clean the floor more often than every 4 weeks with a damp cloth in the first years. Kids, etc. Can it handle that too, or should we rather switch to something that tolerates water better?

Oil sporadically when you think it's necessary. In the almost 20 years, I've only oiled once (although I've had three houses since then...). If something is spilled, you just wipe it off. I got through having three kids without any stress with the floor. If you think it's dirty, just wipe it damp. Parquet can handle that well. You just must not pour out the bucket of water and let it stand for hours.

I'll chime in here. Today we had the sampling for tiles (easy, went quickly) and floors (long and exhausting). Originally, we had planned to go with glued vinyl because...the usual reasons...durable, good conductivity, and not so expensive. Then the salesperson started saying that it might be sensitive to heat from strong sunlight...and then my girlfriend remembered that vinyl is plastic and actually not so great...and then it went back and forth...I definitely don’t want tiles that look like tiles in the living room, and tiles with a wood look are already about 100€, so you might as well just get parquet... Now we are kind of completely open in that regard. As planned, with vinyl and Vinylan Edelkastanie for a good 40€ or Kährs Eiche Domo for around a hundred and possibly an extra charge for installation. It's quite rustic and maybe should be able to handle it if the little one drives the ride-on car through the Duplo pile. For me, the heating/cooling issue is still a bit open. Vinyl conducts well, so no problem. Underfloor heating with glued parquet is probably slow but still okay. But what about underfloor cooling?

Although I only live in a rental apartment, I had quite a bit of say 12 years ago ;).

Living room/Kitchen/Dining/Hallway/Study .. uniform tiles .. it's a kind of slate look

I still think it's super good, cozy, and combinable with all kinds of furniture and so on.

In the bedroom, I chose a carpet made of 80% goat hair and 20% wool from Tretford in a ribbed texture ... it absorbs moisture and releases it again. I then designed the bathroom very individually. By the way, the carpet and general tiles have an identical color tone, which I also chose for the concrete tiles of my 24 sqm roof terrace. This creates a sense of spaciousness with open doors or a view from the terrace door.

After all this time, I would make the same decision again today.

It doesn't matter at all whether it's vinyl, tiles, or parquet. For me, even glued Bild-Zeitung or corrugated sheet metal. The underfloor heating is slow everywhere. And the cooling works everywhere – condensation is unpleasant with both parquet and vinyl. I prefer natural, and thus parquet. In the end, personal well-being decides, and naturally also the wallet.

We have now been living with "Bio Vinyl" for half a year and are very satisfied. Friends' parquet already has plenty of stains and scratches. I find friends' tiles very unpleasant in the living area.
