I am currently thinking about how to best divide the half kitchen island, especially how much space I should allocate for the trash...

How do you handle the trash? What kind of trash do you store in the kitchen? Like old paper and glass too? Do you collect anything in the utility room?

Otherwise, we only have the utility room.
We don’t have a basement or garage.

You don’t want to store too much trash in the kitchen or take up too much space for it. I would like a base cabinet with a waste system for organic and residual waste. And then I thought of a waste system under the sink for the yellow bag, old paper, and glass. But I don’t know if old paper really belongs in the kitchen. I actually don’t want to put a single large trash bin in the kitchen.

Waste paper and glass can usually be taken out directly.

Provide containers for yellow, brown, and black.

We have the Franke Cube 50 with 2x 8 l (Rest and Yellow) + 1x 14 l (Paper) classic under the sink. Currently, it's more than enough and requires taking out once a week for us. Organic or compostable waste is taken out directly. It always depends on the amount of waste produced, but the system itself is pretty good. Smaller trash bins also don't tempt you to leave garbage standing forever. Glass recyclables go into a Metro box in the pantry. It gets taken away when the beer is finished.

Exactly, please feel free to include the sizes of your waste containers as well

8l for the yellow bag? Wow, I probably need to switch to reusable containers even more... mine would probably be full after just one day.

I like my Rotho Albula (bought cheaply in the factory outlet ), you can also stack them well in the utility room.

We will have a 30cm wide cabinet for the trash. In the upper drawer residual waste and plastic, in the lower drawer paper and glass. We do not have a storage room on the ground floor, so everything should be collected in the kitchen. Organic waste then goes directly out into the bin or onto the compost. That is too much of a mess for me to collect in the trash (always leaks through for us).
