Hi Sylvia, do you have a (uniform) sliding door or a sliding door with a fixed glass part? VSG or ESG? We had a quote made in advance. The "luxury version" with VSG, frosted, including stainless steel handles and installation would have cost about 2,500 EUR. Was that outrageous or reasonable?

Living room separate, kitchen and dining room as one space

Our house has an L-shape. The kitchen and dining room are located in the south wing and the living room in the west wing. The wings are connected by the hallway. In summer, the wings are connected by a large terrace in the inner corner (each with a 3 m sliding door).

Why? My wife likes to host cooking parties and we also like to celebrate from time to time. Since our dining room has space for 12 people, and the source of drinks and food is right next door, we celebrate there. When I want some peace or it's a "girls' night," I retreat to the separate living room.

We have 2x6mm VSG, frosting inside, smooth outside for cleaning with 4m running rail, ceiling-high 1400. But that was a cash price and we did the installation ourselves. The torque wrench was extra though.

On the topic: We therefore have a large living/dining room with the long side of the L and the short side of the L leads to the kitchen via a 2.5m wide passage. I would do it that way anytime again.
On the subject of tidiness: Whoever cooks surely cleans up afterwards, right?! It wouldn't occur to me to use the kitchen and then leave everything dirty and grimy lying around.

But I do see the big advantage of a walk-in closet: The laundry can stay in the basket for a day without problems. But for that, the bedroom is a bit smaller. And if I get up at 5, I don't annoy my sleeping wife by looking for laundry together.

But everyone has their own wishes and needs.

We will do it that way as well. So with the dressing room. However, without collecting laundry, this is done in the laundry room - also on the upper floor, where the laundry usually accumulates. That is also a point for us - a separate room for collecting, washing, drying, and folding laundry on the upper floor.

I voted for "everything open without spatial separation." Additionally, we have the "complicating factor" that we have a gallery and an open staircase from the basement to the attic (will have). I think as long as it's just the two of us, it's great; how I feel about it once we have children remains to be seen. Visually, it already looks impressive in the shell stage. We are both quite tidy, and we already clean up diligently while cooking, so the battlefield is kept within limits. In our current apartment, basically all doors are constantly open anyway (except the toilet door). There will definitely still be plenty of opportunities to retreat.

It is simple glass, I believe. The price for manufacturing and installation is about 1,500€. The design by the architect matching our furnishings was added. That was not quite so expensive in our case because it was included in the overall package. What it looks like is shown in the attached photo.
