Leaving cigarette butts on the construction site shows ignorance and cheekiness! Cigarette butts are hazardous waste. I don't urinate in their car either - so why should I tolerate them leaving hazardous waste at my place - mind you, waste that has nothing to do with the construction (cigarette butts)? I will definitely stipulate in the contract that the waste must be disposed of by the provider - including cigarette butts.

I think so. During the blower door test, air was coming in everywhere. The construction manager then said the painter should just apply silicone (?) between the window frame and the window sill and that would be it. But what does the painter have to do with that? I don’t go to the electrician and tell him to properly adjust the heating. The painter said he’s not the donkey for the general contractor and that he doesn’t do anything on the windows.

The expert report states the following:

"Furthermore, it is not permissible for airflows to occur beneath window sills. When installing windows, a airtight execution must be ensured on all sides, including the horizontal parapet area – before installation of window sills – from the inside, and a rainproof execution from the outside. The airtight sealing is intended to prevent room air from penetrating into the building structure. A painter's reworking may certainly ensure this temporarily, but from a technical point of view, it is not a permanently secure execution."

So it is the responsibility of the contractor. Confronted with this letter, I am still waiting for a response.

The plastering of the window sills and their sealing with the [zu streichenden oder zu tapezierenden Laibung] is the task of the painter. Then he fills the joint between the frame and the sill with acrylic, not silicone.

If that is the case, which my expert denies, why did the general contractor not ask me to bring in the painter during the window installation but simply installed everything without sealing? That makes no sense.

Do you know where I can find that the painter is responsible for this?

I don’t really follow your thread. Occasionally I do check in. But when I read something like this, I am very glad to build with individual trades contracts where each trade is not anonymous to me and has a regional reputation to uphold.

Edit: Don’t you have a site coordinator who represents your concerns? Apparently your general contractor pays the trades too little so that no one properly sees themselves as responsible. So far, my trades for plumbing/structural work are communicating with each other about ventilation, openings & co.

I have a building expert and a specialist lawyer for construction and architectural law. The construction management is the responsibility of the general contractor.
