Robson, curly, an honest word. Born in 1958. Retiring at 66. I am by far the bigger earner between us. We have two children, both adults. One still needs us a little. We like to travel and own a boat that we do not want to give up. Not a yacht, but big enough to stay overnight on it as a couple. We had a detached house, because of the stairs it shouldn’t be the last residence before eternity. We owned the land. We cannot pay for the new house in cash and want to be debt-free by 65, without bending over backwards because of the house, without giving up the boat and traveling. Our parents are dead, there is nothing to inherit, they did not have much. Therefore, we calculate tightly to manage with a 50,000 credit. We both agree on that.
Of course, our generation might have different demands. The color of a staircase is less important to us than barrier-free access and 98 cm doors. The red roof and white slightly yellowish facade were fixed, because of course, we took photos of other houses before the appointment that we liked and discussed how it would turn out. What younger people expect from home technology, we do not. What is more important to us are our old furniture, partly flea market pieces, partly memories of our parents. We cannot delight in a designer faucet, but we can in a beautiful piece of teak wood. That roughly is the situation, and I can consciously and sincerely say we here. We have been married for 32 years and it fits, and it was fate, made for each other so to speak.
That is why I so gladly say keep it simple. And, that is my assumption, there are many who feel similarly, they have different reasons, different life situations, but also have to say keep it simple. And they often do not dare to admit that, because it is always somewhat shameful when you cannot keep up in the big, tall, wide, bling bling concert.
Yes, maybe we are modest, but we live quite contentedly this way. Karsten
