If you can afford it, no problem. I wouldn't have the 26,000 lying around, would have to finance it. You do wonder for a brief moment whether it’s ever actually worth it.

Would you like to explain that in more detail? So what do you mean by 5-6kWh from 4kWh storage? Is that per day, per week, per month? What does a period where "nothing" is generated mean? How large is your photovoltaic system?

5-6kWh is needed during the period when nothing is generated (so from evening until the sun shines on the modules again in the morning). The system is 6.5kWp small, oriented 45° exactly to the south (great in winter, about 9000kWh generated in one year!) The battery is therefore empty in the morning before electricity is generated again. My brother has on the other, slightly larger semi-detached house half, an 8.5kWp system with 8kWh battery, so we can compare well. For us, the question of "is it worth it" never even came up. It's just KfW40+ plus passive house. With so many subsidies (which no longer exist now), the battery was even worth it (which was also a condition for KfW40+).

From 1.1. there will initially be 40 cents for 80% of the annual consumption. And how that will look in 2 years, no one can seriously predict. It's not as if the prices for photovoltaic systems and storage haven't risen sharply. He would have gotten this system for 2/3 or even half the price 2 years ago... and at 1.5% interest, not 4...

A photovoltaic system can also be retrofitted. At any cost is certainly not sensible, but that is precisely the topic of the thread. In the medium term, the question of whether to install photovoltaics will no longer arise. You will get a requirement for new buildings and roof renovations in all federal states and in some (presumably BW first) also for existing houses without renovations. Of course, you can consider whether to wait until it is mandatory (and then really expensive) or invest now and benefit from it.

You can easily manage that if you have some technology at home. At the moment I'm at 0.8 kWh, which makes 6.4 kWh over 8 hours (22-6). But in summer, the air conditioning, pool, etc. are added, so I could probably empty a 10 kW storage overnight.
