Hi,
we are also currently in the process of choosing our floors. Tiles are being considered for hallways and bathrooms. Especially in the living/dining room area, I am unsure whether we should choose parquet or vinyl. You hear different recommendations from various sides (advisors from specialist dealers, manufacturers). Regarding parquet in the living/dining room, I simply have the fear that our little son will scratch/damage the beautiful oiled parquet if he walks with dirty shoes (from the terrace) or due to the daily wear and tear from eating. Of course, we make sure that the young sprout takes off his shoes or that they are not too dirty, and naturally we wipe away food residues and moisture, but I ask myself whether parquet is really the most sensible choice here.
After many discussions with advisors, I come to the conclusion that there are indeed many reasons for and against vinyl and parquet. Against parquet speaks also the lightfastness, which you have to accept. Under a couch that stands in the same spot for several years, the parquet will be darker than in other places.
Besides the choice of parquet or vinyl in the living/dining room, I am also wondering whether we should glue it down or lay it floating. We also have underfloor heating. As far as I can draw my conclusion, it doesn't make a huge difference to lay the parquet floating. The parquet can also be more easily replaced (one plank) if it is not glued. In addition, gluing costs us an extra 12€/m² compared to floating installation.
What is your opinion? Floating or glued?
Best regards
