We have that now in the apartment and it’s pretty annoying when you always have a boner in the office or bedroom. I wouldn’t want that anymore. But we also have a 23m² laundry room in the basement. If there is a utility room on the upper floor, then only with enough space also for the laundry; everything else makes no sense in my opinion.

And carry the laundry up and down for that? No. As I said, in winter our laundry is on the gallery (it just doesn’t look nice there, but it doesn’t bother anyone) and it moistens the room air at the same time, and in summer it goes on the roof. Although we hardly have anything to hang up anyway – most of it goes into the dryer (which is located in the utility room).

Down it goes through the shaft and a little movement up again doesn't hurt. Where do you iron then?

Our washing machine is certainly not a miracle machine. We simply chose a quiet machine. I do get enough exercise – despite having an office job. Every evening, I put on my running shoes. That seems more sensible to me than going up and down stairs for laundry. The room is about 8.4 sqm with a width of 2.50. Along the width, several clotheslines are installed, where laundry can be hung directly. Additionally, there is a drying rack. Washing machine, space for a dryer, cabinets for cleaning supplies, a sink for hand washing, etc., a worktop for ironing and folding laundry. A narrow wall with shelves for all sorts of things + (some) suitcases that are stored there. Not huge, but completely sufficient.

I get ironing done - no, honestly, at the moment I have a dear mother-in-law who irons for us. If she ever can't do it anymore, then I would either have the cleaning lady do it or give it away as long as I still work, and when I retire I will a) hardly have any clothes left that absolutely need to be ironed and b) then I'll stand in our light-flooded gallery and look at the mountains while ironing

ah, so quickly one goes from "hygiene" straight to the topic "why are you so stupid to carry your laundry through the house???!?!!11"

hasn't this been discussed here a thousand times already...

we have a utility room in the basement with enough capacity for 3 9KG washing machines - that is washed on Saturday, hung up, and taken down the following Saturday when the new load is washed. out of sight, out of mind.

regarding hygiene: the completely shit-covered romper or the puke-soaked bedsheets: would you just lay them next to your washing machine if it stood in the bathroom, and wash them a week later? no. you would quickly remove pieces at the sink (the washing machine doesn’t like that anyway) and possibly treat them briefly with gall soap, then immediately put them in the washing machine. and that’s exactly how you do it with the laundry chute. carry. don’t throw.

and nothing gets clogged, my wife (the crazy one) always throws hangers through it to hang blouses in the basement...
