The heating system does not fit into the utility room as planned

Where I have to support frenzy, however, is the fact that functionality is indeed impaired when the window opens onto the heater. This could/should have been planned accordingly and the window moved minimally or given a right-hand hinge. This would probably also be the solution I would try to aim for, as everything else likely won’t really be feasible.

If the window really cannot be opened, then the general contractor actually has to take action. I would at least consider this (amateur opinion) a defect.

Then just replace the window. 10 cm fixed with profile and then the window. It probably looks even worse from the outside. Why not just smash the wall on the left 10 cm. Now that's factual! And I stick to it, purely a matter of aesthetics.

Nice is definitely something else, but I can't see the end of the world in it either. Especially since it would be done at the latest with a new window.

I would be annoyed too! It’s simply frustrating when people who build houses professionally overlook such seemingly trivial things. And then just shrug their shoulders afterwards.

If it is very important to the builder, one could check if there are other heating systems that provide the same performance but have different dimensions. Of course, that would be expensive.

Otherwise: With a window with right-hand hinge (seen from the inside), the damage is quite limited. I believe the utility room window is practically never fully opened. Do you have a [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung]? Our utility room window was, IIRC, never open or even tilted. Changing the hinge, if necessary, won’t cost much.

Moving the window would change the exterior appearance. That is probably not desired and might even affect the approval.

How it looks legally would have to be checked. Practically speaking, I think the builder will have to bear the costs. Maybe he can negotiate well, but that doesn’t help much nowadays.

I can well understand the displeasure, after all, you paid 100% and want to get 100%.

Do you still even have the 120cm for the washing machine + dryer, as marked? The system is now positioned in the room like this and the whole room feels full, and there is no proper wall space left. The window is blocked, I also see the space for the dryer at risk (especially since the blue pipe also protrudes from the wall and the washing machine would have to be moved forward). Overall, it all seems very unfortunate.

Legally speaking (not legal advice...), it looks like that is your problem. Because you hired the heating engineer. You would have had to discuss with them which heating system you wanted installed with measurements etc. The site manager has nothing to do with that. Even with the general contractor, the heating engineer comes out to you and you agree with them where what should go. (construction meeting sanitary)

To have any chance of claiming any recourse, you would have had to say from the beginning that you want heating system x variant y and include it in a contract including a datasheet. Then they would have the exact measurements and it would be much harder for them to wriggle out of it. So you were out of luck, because you caused the problem yourself (self-assignment).

I don’t see where one could now start regarding a defect. The site manager could possibly let you install a different window, but you would probably also have to pay for that. I would leave the matter here as long as both machines fit in.

And even if gas only lasts 30-40 more years, the heating system won’t live that long anyway. A later replacement is still easily possible.

I haven't checked the dryer and the washing machine yet. The window can now be opened; it was quietly and secretly fixed. The device now stands crooked, but the window opens…

We commissioned planning, supervision, tendering, invoice verification, and construction management from a single source. We hired him to check everything for the correctness of the plans he created.

That is why it is so annoying. The utility room was also planned – location of the heating system, the washing machine, etc… I even joked: And it will all fit later?
Well, now we have a mess.

For me, house planning is not only about functionality, but the architecture should also be right. That is why we paid attention to many details in the floor plan, which may seem trivial or banal to some.
I did not expect that, created by a professional, it would not work out in the end. Even as a planner, you have the claim to satisfy your customers.

Well, it is what it is.
