My utility room on the upper floor is about 3 sqm ;-)

It is used exclusively for stacked white appliances, a laundry container, and a shelf for detergents and towels.

Our technical room on the ground floor is 5 sqm, the utility room on the upper floor 6.5 sqm

So... we have a terraced house without a basement and therefore placed all our technology in the attic - right next to the bathroom and bedroom, to avoid having a utility room on the ground floor. We have a pantry under the stairs that houses everything necessary.

In the attic are the heat pump, controlled residential ventilation, as well as the dryer and washing machine. My wife likes to do a load of laundry or start the dryer again before going to bed. You can sleep peacefully - also thanks to the soundproof door and the fully foamed frame. In the bathroom, you can occasionally hear the washing machine when water is being drawn, as the pipe runs directly inside the wall.

Otherwise, with proper planning, this works very well nowadays.

Ours is 4sqm upstairs and in addition to ’s inventory (the appliances stand side by side at 1.30m width) there is a drying option on the wall for delicate laundry and a door to the crawl space.
The technology and the rest are on 8.5sqm on the ground floor. There are two of us.

We have a washing machine and dryer in the basement, but I would like to point out that besides possible noise (for example, I often wash early in the morning when the family is still sleeping), the almost hourly trips to fill, remove, and transfer to the dryer are significantly more frequent on big laundry days than carrying the laundry once from the upper or ground floor down. My favorite option today would be to have the utility room (well soundproofed) on the ground floor, where I am almost always – purely for convenience reasons :-)

Our washing machine and dryer are separated from the living room and bedroom only by drywall construction. Our one-year-old son sleeps in the bedside crib with us and is not even bothered by the spin cycle. Apart from the spinning, we can only hear the beeping when a program has finished. However, I made sure to buy quiet appliances (direct drive).
