So our kitchen will only be delivered in December. The island is 1x2 meters in size with a 90cm induction hob. Plenty of workspace, I would have also liked a small rinsing basin, but it was overruled.

Advantages:

- Faster heating
- Faster cooling of the surface after switching off. This greatly reduces the risk of getting burned.
- Flexi-zones possible. Pot on it and switch on, no matter where it stands.

Disadvantage:

- You need special cookware

I would only do the kitchen island, for example, because I think it's cool. Behind it on the counter, I still have about 2-3 meters of free length (the sink is already accounted for). I really don't know what to do with all that space... Instead of a kitchen island, the only other options would be the open space or a bar/counter. Ultimately, I can't really get comfortable with either of these two options. But what do I do with all that space, any ideas?? Oh yes, unfortunately, the whole thing can't be designed differently.. since the width is limited by a balcony door

Whereby "special" is almost an exaggeration. We were able to continue using all our pans and pots after switching to induction. They just have to be magnetic. And I also think induction is great, I wouldn't want to miss it anymore (unless cooking on gas is available). However, I could easily do without an island cooker.

I would probably make a work island rather than a cooking island. That means the cooktop would then be on the row with the sink.

We have switched from gas to induction and are completely satisfied. Until the move, I had cooked and baked my entire life only with gas and initially found it hard to give it up because the gas line would have had to be newly installed from the basement to the kitchen. Now I cook just as quickly, but the kitchen stays much cleaner than with gas. Overall, I have definitely not regretted the switch.

We also have a kitchen island. I believe it is 180x1.20 with an 80 cm induction cooktop. It is definitely not more maintenance-intensive than a cooktop in the row. Splashes that previously landed behind the cooktop on the wall now just land on the surface behind it. Those that previously landed on the floor in front still land on the floor. We also have enough space to the left and right of the cooktop. We love the kitchen island. I would also prefer it over a pure bar counter, as it can be perfectly repurposed for celebrations.

For the cooktop, I would also prefer induction over a ceramic cooktop (I am not familiar with gas cooktops). The plates heat up extremely quickly. In power mode, I heated water in a pot much faster than with a kettle. And you can regulate the temperature very well, as it heats up quickly but also cools down quickly.
