So much has already been written, but now I want to contribute something as well
We have roller shutters on all the windows, which are operated with a crank. The question crank or strap did not come up with our builder, so I was initially surprised after the windows were installed with the crank-operated roller shutters. That was one point we hadn’t taken care of.
The advantage of the crank for me is that I can raise or lower the roller shutters, which are 2.4 m wide on the large windows, without any effort. My neighbors pull up their similarly wide roller shutters with much more force or just let them fall down. The strap has already broken several times. Another point is that the straps get dirty quite quickly – even if the hands are clean. I can quickly wipe down my crank handles, but that’s not so easy with straps.
Overall, I couldn’t do without roller shutters. For example, this morning I closed the roller shutters on the east side, partly even on the north side, then the roller shutters on the south side. We still have enough light.
