I was at the house the other day at noon. South-facing location. Direct sunlight only on the lower 60 cm of the floor-to-ceiling windows. The roof overhang works like a baseball cap. Many thanks to the architect.

And how bright does it get in winter?

With sun, a roof overhang is great. However, if the house has two full stories, it no longer works. It would need easily 2 meters or more

On sunny days: very. The sun is lower in the sky and can shine in unobstructed. On cloudy days, it is of course gloomy, but that applies everywhere, not just under roof overhangs.

I'm skeptical about that. However, in America, farmhouses often have the huge wraparound covered porches. It definitely makes sense.

I'm trying it with a deciduous tree in front of the house.

Most sympathetic solution for shading, nice that it is implementable for you like this.

I will report. The room is somewhat special, if only because it has windows in every cardinal direction and upwards. Hard to imagine that there will be a lack of light there.
