I am always surprised at how cheap the kitchen is for many. Our small island kitchen already cost about 15000.-, without any fancy extras, quite a normal lacquer surface and a standard countertop, so no granite etc. It was indeed a kitchen studio, but in the furniture store it would have cost similarly even with Siemens appliances...

How do you get a kitchen for 11,000 without any frills?

Our Nobilia kitchen 240x300m (so not small either) cost 2,500€ with electrical appliances. Even with smaller special requests like a carousel, drawer pull-outs instead of doors, and a pharmacy cabinet, we probably wouldn’t have exceeded 5,000 EUR.

You see the different perceptions!

For one, 11,000 is low; for the other, a lot!

I have a Nobilia Lux kitchen, 3.0 m x 3.25 x 2.5 m (U-shape) PG 8, a normal countertop, all appliances from Siemens, built-in hob, built-in oven and built-in microwave, ceiling hood, dishwasher and fridge without freezer compartment.

I only have 2 upper cabinets (fold-up doors with LED lighting, those are a bit more expensive, but we wanted to treat ourselves )
In one corner a carousel and in the other a roller shutter cabinet.
I only have pull-outs, that was an extra cost as well.

We bought the kitchen in a kitchen studio and many said it was really a bargain.

My girlfriend has a significantly smaller kitchen with a small island and also paid 14,800 euros with "normal" equipment.

With kitchens, prices really go up to open end.

Since yesterday, 190 EUR, to be exact.

The kitchen topic is also a "point of contention" for us. In my opinion, (with the appropriate promotion, as there are every few weeks) a medium-sized kitchen of medium quality can be custom-designed in the kitchen studio for 5,000-6,000 EUR. That is my experience because I did it once for myself and was involved in such a thing once more.

My girlfriend had a "rickety kitchen" for 1,500 EUR and constantly talks about "quality" and "it has to last a long time." In my opinion, you can get that for the aforementioned 5,000-6,000 EUR, she thinks it would rather take 15,000 EUR than that 10,000 EUR would be enough. We'll see who prevails.

That is of course a huge kitchen and from a brand company, and there the more expensive line. We see it rather soberly. Is cooking our hobby? No, it is not. Would a cheap kitchen from the hardware store suffice? YES, it would. Do we want to regret in 5 years because the hardware store kitchen falls apart? No, we don’t!

The result is a brand-name kitchen without frills

My hobby is home cinema. I have a setup worth a few thousand euros, for projector, screen, AV receiver, speakers. There will certainly be users here who say "We only watch Tatort on Sunday so our 40-inch TV for 500€ is enough."

Everyone has different priorities, of course we would prefer a station wagon from a luxury brand but the 2011 Ford Focus is enough, of course we would like a farmhouse style kitchen with an island group etc., we would like to have a swimming pool in the garden.

Everything just can’t go

In my previous apartment, I also had a U-shaped kitchen from the same manufacturer for about 6000.-, also a large independent induction hob (but Siemens), built-in oven, and partly drawers partly doors. It may be that island solutions are particularly expensive now because they are modern, but we only have a 330 cm long run without upper cabinets, as there is a window in the middle, fridge on the left, tall cabinet with oven on the right, between them sink, dishwasher, and drawer cabinets. Otherwise, a small island 180 x 120 cm with a large hob, hood, and drawer cabinets. However, we wanted a higher worktop height and a low plinth for more storage space, the dishwasher is XXL and extra quiet, as is the fridge (all appliances from Miele). But as I said, in the furniture store, the same with Siemens would have cost just as much, despite the alleged 60% promotion etc. That is total nonsense, the basis for it are utopian prices. The kitchen builder showed us that in his program. If he had normally ordered everything individually, it would have come to 36,000.- €!!! With some kind of block calculation it was then about 15,000.- which then again explains the alleged 60% promotions...
