For us, for example, the food costs are around €600 per month, however, for 4 people

We are also between 300 - 400 euros per month, roughly calculating about 100 euros per week, for 3 people (daughter 10 months) and all three of us are currently at home. Nobody is starving and thanks to TM my wife also cooks fresh every day. We don’t skimp on our little one either; she always gets her puree freshly prepared. For that, we also have an organic box of fruits and vegetables delivered every two weeks. We save on diapers; here we stock up every 3-4 months at the diaper mobile.

However, I have to say that we are not fans of ready meals or frozen pizzas, those are ordered extremely rarely. Going out and eating out is also rarely possible because of my illness.

You always have to look individually, everyone has different circumstances or preferences. For example, we don’t pay car tax or parking fees, which saves almost 500 euros a year. Proper vacations are also hard to manage; last year we were "only" 3 days at the North Sea. All in all, for just under 500 euros.

Do you have a house in Hürth? We are currently also looking in Brühl, Hürth, Wesseling, Bornheim, Erftstadt.

Nice to hear that others also manage with 300-400 EUR (without it being just bread and water).

I didn't write that these are necessary. Of course, these 1000 EUR correlate with our salary. I had also written... when we were in training, it was around 300 EUR. Basically, I meant: Everyone should carefully consider how much they want to restrict themselves. New construction and then only running to Aldi (nothing against Aldi... somewhat exaggeratedly expressed) somehow doesn't fit together. Just as silly as a fancy car and a one-room apartment with canned soup. Each to their own... but I find it ridiculous and say so.

We currently live in Hürth renting, building in Weilerswist. Hürth and Brühl it is almost hopeless to find a good and affordable plot. We have basically searched south of the A4, in the west from Düren via Vettweiß, Zülpich up to Weilerswist. There is also little offer in Erftstadt, we did not want Wesseling.

Discount products always perform very well in tests, sometimes even as well as branded products. In addition, branded products are now also available at Aldi. Why should I buy a 10-pack of Duplo for 2.39 EUR at REWE or EDEKA when I can get it for 1.99 at the discounter?

If I have to choose between frozen meals at REWE and Co or fresh products from the discounter, the discounter always wins. That you spend 1000 EUR on groceries is your prerogative; I just found the statement that you can't eat healthily for 300 EUR as a family of three incorrect and couldn't leave it like that.

We had to realize that painfully as well. We live in Cologne's Südstadt, and every district with "Cologne-" in front of it is unaffordable except maybe Godorf and Meschenich, and you know why (Godorf because of the view of the chemical plants [same problem as in Wesseling] and Meschenich because of the Kölnberg as a hotspot).
