I would make the windows with parapets in the north on the upper floor. Then, where the storage room was branched off, the window could be used for a kitchenette, so the kitchen would be along the children's room wall with a small extension in front of the window and the work island then as an L.
The hallway itself would be moved more towards the center of the house, with a storage room from the hallway on the stair wall (where the kitchen is currently drawn).
I would give the small seating area a wall (back wall of the hallway?), then overall there would be more space for the bedroom and bathroom (maybe space for a built-in wardrobe?) and the living area in L-shape would be somewhat more structured. I would place the dining table against the wall parallel to the work island.
Where should the bedroom window go? Possibly omit the south window so that a wardrobe would fit there?
It might be that I am making a mistake in thinking, unfortunately I don't have any paper at the moment to sketch it out.
