A quick note on property tax. Just opened two letters about property tax for two apartments in a major city in the Ruhr area. Property tax is decreasing by approx. 10%. The tenants are happy about that.

Actually, the property tax was supposed to be switched to revenue-neutral. That no longer seems to be the case for a long time. You certainly can't blame the municipalities either. Here, municipal taxes can easily be increased to cushion rising costs and they are not even to blame for the increase, but can pass the buck to the government. For us, the property tax is also 50% higher; it's not nice, but we can afford it. Such a thing is likely to hit some tenants, who are already scraping by on the subsistence level, much harder.

I also find it more difficult that there is no legal certainty whatsoever because appeals are not processed at all. My parents, for example, have an undevelopable garden plot. (reines Grünland). The value of the plot was assessed the same as building land and the garden shed at the per square meter price of a single-family house. The appeal is still unprocessed at the tax office. The property tax is nevertheless assessed.

I work in field service worldwide, often 3-4 weeks at a stretch on site, sometimes it can even be 6-8 weeks. About half of the year on the road, sometimes even more. By the way, one of the few who still want to do it at all, we have massive problems finding young talent. Even 3 nights away in a row is unimaginable for most...

I hope therefore I have your permission to spend the little free time at home with the family, instead of with politics...

Because the tax money that politics so gladly spends, with both hands... we earn that, not the public service or an office...

PS:
There is enough money. You just have to spend it on meaningful things and not give it to people who have no desire for hard work... right...

And what do you think, where this money originally comes from? You don't mine it in a money mine while generating it. You can generate money because someone else produced it before, spent it, and it finds its way to you either directly or through many detours. And these detours can also be government agencies. I recently heard that public employees also take their wages to shops, where the owner then generates that money. Crazy! Apart from that, you can only work yourself at functioning public institutions. Whether each of these institutions is necessary or optimally aligned: certainly not. But just try stopping the municipal gritting service on icy roads in winter and see who generates what here…

The objection is certainly being put on hold right now. They are waiting for the final court decision. Your property tax assessment can also be suspended accordingly (as a subsequent assessment), since the foundational assessment is still under objection. Whether this is practical remains to be seen. Ultimately, you can dutifully continue to pay, and if the foundational assessment is determined to be unlawful, the municipality must repay or a correction can be quickly made.

Shouldn't one then rather apply for the suspension?
