Funny, I only learned during my studies that there are situations where land and house do not belong together (such as [Erbbaurechte]). I would never have thought to consider house and land separately.

Everyone in the FRG, and to my knowledge also in Berlin (West) at that time.

After the lease agreement expires, and not without compensation either.

well, we're not in the USA either, where there are warnings on the microwave not to dry hamsters in it. In DE you still have to inform yourself. That means researching the internet (where much is spoon-fed to you), leafing through books, and gathering experiences from your acquaintances.

The cigarette pack cited is also not so nicely illustrated to warn you, but to satisfy negative attention. Pure politics.

This comparison is also quite flawed, as your house probably does not harm your health or threaten your life. But why should anyone protect you from "paying taxes"?

Oh, most people are generally not very happy about paying taxes. Property taxes, for example, are disliked by almost everyone, but I almost fear they would like it even less if the streets in front of their house were no longer cleared in winter, there were no local kindergartens or schools anymore, trees were no longer pruned, and so on and so forth.... But hey, not everyone is capable of thinking that far ahead.

On the topic: Get proper advice. Anything else won't get you anywhere. And believe me, especially when it comes to inheritance tax, a good tax advisor is ALWAYS worth it.

Wait a minute! None of the things listed happen here and I still have to pay.
