Since there is a strong focus here on guests, cooking together, etc., I would also want the entrance area to be more spacious or well planned so that both fit together. The idea of the vestibule at the access to the WC/bedroom is sensible, but the visitor then has to enter these private quarters, which is counterproductive. I think you can live openly and stylishly like this, but it requires really detailed planning of the individual zones, down to plants, room dividers, etc., and you need the background of such a living concept; simply having space is certainly not enough. Let's see what TE says about it. Individual planning only works if the individual precisely states their needs and wishes.

In 's proposal, it has the advantage of still being able to reach the WC fairly directly, but better utilizing and structuring the long wall to the living area, because only one access area needs to be properly designed instead of three.

Hello kbt09,
Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for the responses, I can’t keep up with reading everything. I will accordingly supplement my post, for simplicity’s sake here is the entire post including additions:

Exterior walls and window positions as well as stairs and entrance (access to upper floor) are basically fixed since we already entered them that way in the preliminary survey, otherwise we are still flexible as construction has not yet started.

: You are right, I had posted this before, but since then the initial situation has changed a bit. Sorry that I did not mention this initially.
It is a replacement new build and there will be a 3.5-room apartment on the ground floor later; currently combined with the upper floor it is a 7.5-room apartment.
The plan is for our family of five (3 children, 2 adults) to have 4 rooms on the upper floor; on the ground floor there is an office and a guest room, the guest room will be used about 90 days/year (maybe/hopefully more in the future). The attic will be used as a play area.

We like to cook, also for family and friends.
Height of adult persons: approx. 1.60 and 1.65 m
We have 7.25m x 7.10m space available
Parapet height approx. 1m.
Wishes:
- Bar in the kitchen for 2 or more people
- enough space to cook for and with family and friends
- dining table for 8 people
- basically open kitchen/living area, we want to live together with family and friends.

Here are the already drawn variants and our criticisms of them:

Variant 1: L-kitchen: overall I find the kitchen relatively small, also it has “only” 2 tall cabinets, which are occupied by fridge and oven. Furthermore, there are 2 passages, one through the living area, one behind the wall, overall a lot of wasted space?

Variant 2: Kitchen in the middle: all paths go through the kitchen, overall little workspace in the kitchen. The cooking area is more or less right next to the couch, accordingly it splashes almost into it. No window at the kitchen to ventilate if something is being cooked strongly.

Variant 3: Kitchen bottom right (marked in green): From the entrance I walk directly through the kitchen, living area on the street side.

Variant 4: Kitchen in the middle of the room: There are like 3 passages, a bit strange. Workspace also a bit tight. No window at the kitchen to ventilate if something is being cooked strongly.

Hope this already helps, what other information would still be helpful?
Thanks again for the feedback so far and I look forward to more ideas.

Regards

Yes, it is a replacement new build, there is no basement, but to the right of the new building there is a large technical area, and also the old barn, so there is plenty of space there.

Hello Nordanney, thanks for the honest feedback, how would you design the floor plan?
The external dimensions are more or less given due to building regulations (we have to build within the existing building), the entrance door and the staircase are more or less fixed as well.

Suggestions are welcome.

Why didn’t you plan the rooms differently?

A square is always difficult to furnish. One area always remains dark.
Privacy is lacking.

The kitchen at the bottom right is my favorite. However, I would adopt the bathroom/bedroom layout from .

Please draw in a proper sofa. The one in the plan is a bit too small.
