The way you do it, with evaporators inside the house and an outdoor unit. Completely separate from heating and ventilation. Because a combined unit just gets unnecessarily expensive and unnecessarily large.
But this way, each unit has its own task. They "coordinate" with each other, so you always get a consistent and desired temperature and air quality, summer and winter, at more or less favorable operating and investment costs.
