Just like Nordlys, I see it that way too and can agree 100%... For example, we also decided on a gas boiler despite all the tech affinity and a house full of electronics. The reasons are partly stated in my first post here in the thread.
The boiler has been humming along for almost 10 years and does what it’s supposed to at reasonable operating/maintenance costs. We like to have ~24°C not only in the bathroom but in all living areas; only the bedrooms are at ~20°C, and that alone would already kill the efficiency of any heat pump.
Additionally, the investment costs during construction were less than half compared to the cheapest heat pump offered by the general contractor.
Nevertheless, I have a heat pump for cooling in the summer.
In terms of complexity, heat pumps and gas boilers are pretty much the same. It’s not rocket science. Both can be maintained and repaired more or less easily, and for both you need one or the other license to be allowed to work on them.
Only with gas boilers, it looks like—exaggerating—you can just hit them with a hammer and nothing happens... whereas with a heat pump every little thing and every less than 100% optimal setting is sometimes associated with enormous additional costs.
By the way, despite all the doomsday warnings, the gas price has remained largely the same over time. Even back in 2010, all the pessimists predicted a huge price increase and so on...
In contrast, the electricity price has steadily increased and basically knows only one direction:
