Every even halfway intelligent person will recognize that "their" floor plan is not suitable for all other people and preferences and will have no problem putting themselves in a requirement different from their own life. Most old people I know are more or less satisfied with what they have done and accept the consequences. They regret what they have omitted, where they hesitated, where they were too cautious. My conclusion from this: Better to act and sometimes be wrong afterwards than constantly doubt and hesitate and ultimately only do things halfway.

The topic here is about a new build for people over 50. One should (no, must) take a look at the life phases over 60, over 70, and later years.
I have three older sisters, each with partners, and all have a house with stairs. Living on one level, plus other senior-friendly features (our walk-in shower is 1.10 m x 1.2 m), were not or insufficiently considered back then. Much was also not possible due to plot size, etc. All six people currently say that if they were to build NEW now, it would be in a size and form roughly like our bungalow. Fortunately, many seniors also build a bungalow if they build new again.
By the way, my father went into a nursing home at 84 because living on one level was not possible in his house (rented). Maybe he could have stayed longer in his old environment.

Today's 80-year-olds are actually the 60-year-olds of the past.
Gym, “high heels,” running, and all the other things old people do…. but at home, they can no longer manage the hurdle into bed (mattress too high) :D or the stairs down to the basement…

Whoever builds 140 sqm builds 140 sqm, whoever builds 300 sqm builds 300 sqm. To each their own…

This is actually only about the "failed" floor plan.

Today's 80-year-olds may be the 60-year-olds of the past, but mostly with a corona infection that is often noticeable in their stamina. All the more reason for a bungalow :-) But back to the floor plan :-)

First of all: either you confused me with someone else in #32 or you quoted me incorrectly, I am not building a bungalow, no idea what you mean by that.

And to:

What’s wrong with you? Calm down again. In the floor plan forum, nearly all long-standing members – including you – repeatedly (rightly) refuse to discuss "castles in the air." There may not be a castle in the air here, but again: the budget would be exceeded with this size, that has to be addressed (allowed)! If essential things have to be cut for the sake of saving money, any discussion about THIS floor plan is pointless. That’s exactly always your argument, isn’t it?!
And that’s all I was talking about.

No, I did not confuse you. I agreed with you. That’s right. But these are two different issues, a) the budget and floor plan issue and b) the prescribing of how big someone may build and how much money they may spend from the perspective of some. I find it not only presumptuous – it is presumptuous.
