The questionnaire was about the orientation of the house, meaning the positioning on the property, specifically the long axis. And why was the floor plan created that way then?

Exactly that and nothing else leads to the goal when you look at the current floor plan. (see explanations hampshire)

Playing around with floor plans is a great thing for forming your will. The exchange about it is helpful. I also agree with : Involving an experienced professional greatly increases the likelihood that your house will turn out really good and suitable for you.

Is the house built to last forever? About 200 sqm for 2 people? Did I calculate that correctly? Are you already planning the house to be future-proof? What happens if the 2 standard guests no longer come? Couldn’t you have accommodated them in one of the "offices"? In summer, you’re probably spending 90-95% of your time in the garden or living room. That leaves 3 rooms empty. Walking through 200 sqm and climbing stairs in old age—there are nicer things to do. I know many retirees with 200 sqm houses who regret it.

I completely agree. My ambition was not to replace the architect either. However, I think it makes sense to know more than just the number of rooms before the appointment with the architect. I believe it is easier for an architect to understand what we want if there is an exemplary floor plan.

Full agreement Don’t take just one floor plan, but several and explain what you like about individual aspects. The architect can then piece it together. Also show pictures of rooms and exterior views that you like. Describe a typical workday, variations of a successful evening, hobbies, a nice day off in winter, in bad weather, in summer, in heat, in social settings, in quiet…, describe routines and preferences as well as dislikes. Let the architect translate this into architecture. If he or she is not interested in this, find another one. You could gain interest as follows: “Would you like to design and build the right house for us with great creative freedom?”
