And do you now also have a house with 16 sqm children's rooms, a garden to romp around in, and 41 sqm of living space? As I said, if you like it. And in case of emergency, you can also put a large vase in for decoration. ;)

I find the idea original. I would also implement it if it doesn’t cost a fortune, as such things often give a house enriching individuality. That is probably the case here. That’s probably also why the stair window is somewhat offset in the dormer?! I’ve sketched it out… You have to consider that you sit lower than the steps and that with the spiral stairs, which are somewhat steep due to the narrow steps, it’s difficult to get into the space. In the photo, there is a seating area above a landing. And: it’s missing in the kitchen. There, there would be a large block that would take away at least two upper cabinets and the headroom might possibly be limited as well. I also can’t imagine children playing _in front of_ their room while a parent hides away in this nook instead of playing along. It’s really the opposite idea, watching the children while enjoying the beautiful view. But okay. I’ll try my hand at the house this evening :)

Again me: the question would be whether the seat surface is even planned to be deep. Probably not, I think right now. But then you would have to climb up to the seat surface, because the steps are only… 75cm ?… away. Or?

Not quite ;) we have an apartment with a balcony on the 5th floor, a playroom with 20sqm, a children's bedroom with 14sqm, and the play hallway in between. The garden will probably make the main difference for us, then it will probably be a winter reading niche.

The niche is at floor level on the upper floor so that we don't dent the kitchen... Alternatively, we could omit the floor buildup here to get even deeper, but so far we like it pretty much as it is.
We come into the niche from the top step and attach a fall protection at the window.
Regarding children playing in the hallway while we read in the niche, I agree with you, that wouldn't work. For us, however, it is a bit different. My husband and I work a lot from home and then have grandma and a daycare provider there. They play there, and when we are nearby and not in a closed-off office, it's nice too.
But sure, new house, new environment, new habits. Maybe it won't work out so well, but with the view, we will definitely linger there now and then :)

Mmh, crawling in turns into an acrobatic act with a risk of falling. So I really don't want to talk you out of it, but maybe there's a better place to cuddle into the wall? Bay windows, for example, are very popular and much nicer for looking outside.

May I ask again if the seating angle to the window is important? So: where exactly is the beautiful village street? Can you roughly explain or sketch it so that it can somehow be taken into account?
