If I interpret this correctly, you have a building encumbrance due to distances in the rear area of the property? That is apparently why the garage is so wide. What is standing so close to your garden there?

Hey everyone,

thanks again for all the feedback. To be clear: I am very grateful to you for all the discussions and topics that make me think, but in my opinion, you can also do that without immediately assuming that one can't or wouldn't do anything else or fit all their things in.

Of course, all these things would be desirable (separate utility room, separate technical room, shed or workshop, etc.), but here in the Stuttgart metropolitan area, I have to arrange myself with the circumstances and from time to time the garage is converted into a workshop with a foldable workbench. And I checked again carefully, the garage will be insulated, probably at least because it is attached to the house regarding thermal bridges.

to your last question: On the side of the marked tree there is an empty parcel with fruit trees and on the other sides there is the garden of a different house each.

But the forum helps me a lot, and as I said, also all your feedback. But as you correctly pointed out, it should be functional, but for all eventualities (the snowstorm you mentioned), I don’t want or can’t prepare on the site. I accept that the tools remain in the storage. I will reconsider the size of the technical room/laundry room.

If we plan the kitchen in the corner next to the technical room, it can still be enlarged without restriction, but I am not yet sure about the upper floor and the knee wall, whether these can be done without.

Attached is my most recent draft from last night based on your feedback; I am happy to receive further feedback on it. I am currently still missing the information about the installed technology, then I can also include it in the drawing.

To give some concrete numbers here without bashing the original poster for being clueless, depending on the heat pump, you can fit all the technology (indoor unit, meter cabinet, house connection, small network cabinet) nicely into 4sqm. But then it really gets tight and maintenance work becomes very annoying. If you want to include the washing machine, etc., then 8sqm is a good recommendation, that’s alright. I would just make sure the room is at least 2m wide, so 2x4, so there is still space to move around inside. Also, there are a few regulations to consider. For example, I think there must be at least 1m of free space in front of the meter cabinet, etc. Try to concentrate the technology on one side or the back half and then buy some nice built-in cabinets (for example, we used Metod from Ikea) to create proper storage space. You can fit quite a lot in there. I also think the living area looks much nicer now. I really like the slight L-shape. Maybe you should also plan a sliding or loft door to the hall in the future, so the office is quieter. But you could also do that afterward. Using the sofa area as a passage, however, would probably annoy me a bit. I would probably swap the sofa and kitchen. Otherwise, someone is always running in front of the TV.

Unfortunately, the stairs do not work because you lack headroom upstairs on the first floor.
When presenting drafts, please never show only one floor. That is of no value at all. Both floors must always be fully visible for an evaluation.
And please also include the patio doors in the drawings!
