In our previous apartment, we had a small studio with a mini kitchenette, which was set up just as you described. The red niche would be the window and on the right edge of the picture the large countertop along the wall to the bathroom would run.

The green "wall" was simply a torsion-resistant wooden board with a small shelf on top, the thickness of the pillar. Underneath was an LED strip for glare-free lighting in the living area.

Of course, this won’t be a large kitchen, but given the compactness of the room, it is very suitable and practical. Under the window, I would probably forgo a countertop so it doesn’t look too cluttered.

That's exactly what I mean. I would keep the wall a bit flatter. That way, you'd have a kitchen large enough and a real living room. Whether a projection screen or TV doesn't matter for the furnishings. What is the big storage room for? Is this an apartment on a hillside?

Thank you for the many tips. Really great how you help! :)

I think the plan with the pillar will not work, since it is only 1.96 m, of which 60 cm are used for the row along the wall to the bathroom. Then another 1 meter between the two rows... then only 36 cm remain for the row towards the living room, right? So it would have to be somewhat offset.

Yes, the house is built on a slope and therefore the room is also designated as a storage room. However, the room is fully equipped and can therefore also be used as living space. I have not yet given any thought to its use.

That's right. That's too narrow. You are two people, right? What if you make a U with the "counter" towards the wardrobe? And then put the TV area in this storage room? Hobby could stay hobby and storage, the all-purpose room with the table in front of the panoramic window and a work corner in the all-purpose room? That would be an idea… ultimately it depends on how you live your life and what priorities are set.

Hello everyone,

some time has passed and we have made further progress with the planning.

You can see from the floor plan itself that the apartment is designed quite compactly and therefore brings some challenges and certainly requires compromises in many places. We have reflected once again on ourselves and our lifestyle – what is important to us and what we do not need (Not: e.g. the counter with bar stools.)

In the meantime, we have been to two kitchen planners (getting an appointment is not that easy) and already have drafts for the kitchen. One is a two-row kitchen and the other a proposal where a cabinet and the sink are also placed under the window. In terms of storage space, both kitchens are more than sufficient for the current state.

In this context, we have also reconsidered the floor plan and the entrance area and wanted to evaluate with you again what you can report from your experience. It is about moving the wall of the kitchen and the bathroom so that it aligns flush with the pillar. This would widen the entrance hallway from 1.70 to about 2.30 m and, in our view, open it up even more.

The kitchen would be big enough for us.

The question is the bathroom: here we would have to decide whether we prefer a "super mini bathroom" (approx. 3.5 sqm) or at least a "mini bathroom" (approx. 4.5 sqm). I tried to briefly illustrate my idea in Paint. Do you think taking 60 cm from the length of the bathroom will hurt? Due to the "narrow shape," our personal opinion is that the extra 60 cm do not add much. The bathroom is rather suboptimal in both cases and cozy in terms of size. :)

The question is still unanswered. YES! If tube shape, then properly ;) I think you are saving square meters in the wrong place. The square meters in the bathroom are important, more important than an extra square meter in the hallway. And what would you gain from that? That the whole room feels like you are sitting in the hallway, because every sightline opens to the door. We are not talking about widening a 1 meter narrow hallway, but it already has its 1.70 and is visually widened by the kitchen. I have concerns about making the kitchen smaller as well. If it is sufficient now, that's good. Then you put your file folders in a kitchen cabinet. Eventually there will be new dishes, new appliances or new Tupperware, then you will be grateful for every extra bit of space. Just a change in eating habits could lead to different foods, and it will get cramped very quickly.
