Hello... unfortunately the topic has now reached us. 90-year-old grandma fell asleep yesterday. Grandpa is fine, he is even relieved since she always had health problems. There is no will, there is also an aunt who wants to claim everything. Do the grandchildren, meaning us, inherit anything? Our mother died years ago. Do we have to do anything, take action??
In your case, grandpa inherits half. The other half goes to the children. If your grandparents had two children (the mother and the aunt?), each child inherits one quarter. Since only one of the children is still alive (I conclude this from your information), your aunt inherits 1/4 and the children of the other child (i.e., the grandchildren) also inherit 1/4.
Whether you should take action depends on what happens now – and also on your grandpa’s clarity. If your aunt does not come forward now and you yourselves do not want to assert any claims, you could also just wait and simply support grandpa until all unpleasant matters such as the funeral, etc., are resolved and paid for.
