Yes, we have a great plot and we also bought it at BRW and thus far below market value, as it comes from the family. I can still recognize what a real stroke of luck that is for us (just like with the job and financial development. I’m not only happy about my professional development because of the salary jumps, but also because of the gained opportunities to shape things through the position, the higher demands, and especially the trust given to me as a part-time mom to enable and trust me with that.)

For the house, we simply focused our priority on size. There were also plans for three children, which have not been realized so far. And for that, we “saved” on the fittings. Your 300sqm plot is probably in a very good (large) urban location. That then has other advantages. We live in a district town with not even 20,000 inhabitants. Currently (with the children), this suits us just fine. And according to your theory, only those who are below average may be dissatisfied? It would actually be nice if that were the case, but I don’t know if it corresponds to human nature.

.. I know.. Off topic, but have you ever talked to the educators or the teachers about which children have formed close bonds that you could build on? If you are now somewhat more urban, that can already be a sticking point per se. I work in an urban daycare and am myself surprised how few playdates there are. I know it quite differently from my daughter and the rural daycare.

What do you mean by "allowed," but we do try to regularly remind ourselves that these are actually ridiculous luxury problems.

In your position, there is nothing against buying another suitable plot of land. Either build on it yourselves again or keep it as an investment for your children. It's great to have a good piece of land in the family's possession.

First, I mostly understood your concern... people somehow always want more. But now more and more things are coming up that seem to me like excuses... either you just want to hear from everyone here "Yes, definitely build new," because it somehow already seems like a done deal. Or these "reasons" are actually different... is something buried deeper?

Many "problems" are something almost all parents have... joining a new group in kindergarten is rarely totally easy. Old contacts are harder to maintain? Yeah... but that was known before. In the end, you simply can't have everything... some have comparatively more, others comparatively less. You definitely belong to those who have more though. Luxury problems are still problems, but some of them you can solve or do afterward... you'll survive the rest. And as someone said here? The most important thing is the time together, no matter where. Focus on that and you will be happy in the current house too.

Attention, one more theory: Are you perhaps a little bored, in the sense of lacking goals and challenges? After all those years with building a house, having children, parental leave, maybe a bit of everyday monotony has crept in? The career has sought you out, not the other way around. A lot of good things have happened, there must be a catch somewhere … ? What comes next? Do you have hobbies? I don’t even mean reading a book or going to the cinema. But generally, I find the question interesting for everyone: You have largely got everything under control. The kids are doing well, job etc. all quite alright. What then? And what do you do with sudden windfall?

Maybe start enjoying life...?
Money doesn't make you happy, but it is immensely reassuring.
