I know a pediatrician who lives in a (not optimal) used house, continuously renovated and has built a pool. The money is spent on a horse for Madame, who doesn’t have to work, and a boat for leisure.
My family doctor bought an old farmstead because his wife, also a doctor, wants to fulfill a dream before suffering from a hereditary disease: renovation, solitude, and vegetable gardening.
A friend has a boat in the Canaries and a boat here, on which they alternate living. The young couples around us invest in vans, campers, etc., three colleagues invest in boats.
Fulfilling dreams for quality of life is the trend. I think that’s good.
We know some with a considerable money surplus, but no one who is dissatisfied with their house.
One couple did it: they built bigger and fancier (while we were building), then got a dog. Then came the concession and the divorce.
What I want to say: since Corona, more investment has been made in leisure again. I think that’s good!
I would also reconsider the extra free time through reduced working hours. About 10% of my working group actively do this. I think that’s good.
Edit: I don’t even know what an aircraft carrier in the kitchen is. Once it’s there, what will it be then? Virtually the runway? Even bigger or even longer? What else will the house-building wish list have in store later?
It’s interesting that the individual assessment of “good” consumption is simply transferred to others. Boats, vans, or campers don’t appeal to me at all. I don’t have to have that, even if others do, and I also grant them that it gives/brings them something.
Everyone apparently has different preferences and may well live them out. One could also just as well say that since Corona more has been invested in houses, gardens, and their equipment. After all, through home office, I spend most of my time there anyway.
I also see the good in our house. That’s why I am reluctant to tear out and replace what is quite good and new. If I sell it, it remains preserved, and someone else can enjoy having a young used house without construction stress.
By the way, aircraft carrier is a term from the corresponding forum.
