Dissatisfied with the new building as there are now other options

I don't see it that way. First of all, I am simply dissatisfied and not deeply unhappy. For me, that's a big difference.
What makes me dissatisfied is that from today’s perspective, I know I could have achieved a higher level of goal attainment. Depending on the possibility, of course. Without the possibility, I could still recognize the "need for optimization" (which I already did during the planning phase), but it would be my optimal level of goal attainment and thus settled. I do not believe that one should only strive for something "better" if there are glaring deficiencies to endure. If you transfer that to other areas and nothing to the house, it would mean that no one wanted anything above average or special in any area. Then the world would look significantly grimmer and not so colorful/interesting.

Children can "connect" - at least in the digital world - quite well in my opinion, thanks to TikTok, Snapchat, and Whatsapp, etc. I think. In the real world, often only trying things out helps. We tried it with the youth fire brigade, archery, dancing, music, etc. Of course not all at once ;)
It becomes challenging to show the child a life path and to convey one's own - hopefully honorable - virtues and values.
Not to mention puberty ...

But with a rising salary, that is open upwards, so that a state of satisfaction can never be reached. :)

Why the existential crisis? If you want a conservatory, then just build it. A smart home using wireless technology can also be retrofitted if you really need it. Otherwise, I would rather invest the money in a properly large garden if I were you.

From the beginning, we had a bigger financial buffer than you unexpectedly have now, and we still only built what was reasonable. And do I miss anything now? A clear no. I simply found other hobbies after the stress of building the house was over, lots of sports for example. It helps to clear your mind...

And the improvement from the previous tiny rented apartment to the newly built own house was so great that all further improvements would only be incremental and rather insignificant anyway.

The goal itself was already defined 3-4 years ago. Nothing has changed about that.

I never claimed that you are only allowed to build or change if there are glaring defects.

If the new construction contributes to your level of goal achievement and optimizes your, what actually? then build new. Just make sure that the target size is not expanded too much upward and the level of goal achievement decreases despite higher resource use.

After all, the axiom of insatiability plays a role here.
