Then sell the old house and build/ have a new one built. If you can afford it, why not? Nowhere does it say that a house is supposed to last forever. The only disadvantage is the price or the availability. Plots of land nowadays are rarely available.

ah puh, none of that would be essential enough for me personally to invest in a new house. and that, even though my monthly net income is also five figures ;) I would use the money for nice trips and later pay for the children’s studies.

I see it the same way. You can also spend a lot of money on the garden. For example, a new nice little house and there; if possible; install a fireplace. Or build a pool.

That's how I see it too.
The luxury you currently have is only available to very, very few people in the world. You should be aware of that.
By having higher fixed costs, you also create more pressure on yourselves. Is that really necessary?
Why not invest the saved money in a hobby or vacations instead?
Or in the children's future? Or in retirement provision, to be able to retire a few years earlier?

I have read your two posts and I clearly vote for continuing the search for a plot and either building a new house or finding an existing house that comes closer to your dream home. I was particularly convinced by the (too few/too small?) windows. But aside from that, I also think, why shouldn’t you improve if it is possible for you? From my point of view, that is more purposeful than tinkering a lot with the current house. Who knows what it will look like in the end and whether you will like it better?
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you in the search for a plot. Please keep us updated.

Are you really more satisfied afterwards? Everything you write is luxury, optics. I would rather invest more money in quality of life. Cleaning fairy, teenager mowing the lawn, window cleaner, etc. Travel, children's education, etc. At some point, the house warranty runs out, then you have the flooring replaced because the children have left marks, etc.
