Right. What matters is what you make of it. I know divorced parents who still spend every birthday, every Christmas, etc. together with the children. Achieving that is the great art.

With €50,000 in pure attorney and court costs, the amount in dispute must have been extreme. Or was the lawsuit processed through several instances? Please enlighten us.

I don’t understand the last sentence... it was legally established that you were indeed not right. What is this nonsense? Honestly, either you stubbornly sued against all objections on principle, or you blindly trusted a bad lawyer.

I will post separately about the actual thread.

It was about a property. I just want to say, a legal dispute in the family (whether divorced, parents, children) never ends well. Whether you win or lose, the strain is extremely high. In our case, I was coldly exploited by my own father. Badly advised? No, rather in the end the realization and disbelief that morality and law have nothing to do with each other.

No? But children usually see it differently.

So the first one is allowed to move out "without consequences," but the second (= the mother) is abandoning the children.
Dad could have taken the children in, right?
But it doesn’t matter, it’s an automatic assumption here in our society. The father is gladly allowed to leave; the mother is supposed to stay with the children until the end of days.

I admit, I am very emotionally touched by the topic. But something like that just makes me sad...

Yes! The two older children do not receive any support. So they have finished their education and earn their own money. I think having their own apartment is reasonable. The youngest should simply live with one of the two parents. The thing with grandma is new, isn't it? Whose mother is that? : How about simply demanding rent in the amount of the installment until the property is paid off? In any case, I would first stop the payments to the bank to create facts and not give in right away. If you do nothing now, you abolish any legitimacy to change the situation in the future.
