Didn’t the OP even write that originally (but presumably before the divorce) it was agreed that the ex-wife would pay her share subsequently? I mean, inheritance was mentioned. Then the partner, if I understand Kati correctly, might not even be able to obtain a title now, right?

I understood it that the divorce was about the future installment. Whether these alleged five-figure debts even exist in that sense (legally), I dare to doubt after the explanations. Maybe something can still be arranged within the framework of the equalization of accrued gains, but if not, everything paid during the marriage would probably be considered settled.

Even if I'm nitpicking late: Dr. is a title and a mandatory part of the name (like a noble title). Anyone who earns a doctorate must have all their relevant documents (passport, ID card, driver's license, etc.) changed because a doctoral title must be carried.
This is not the case with professor, nor with magister, dipl. ing., dipl. something else, master, etc.: these are academic degrees.

However, the grilled chicken doesn't really help.

That would be new to me! A doctorate title can certainly be entered in the ID, but it is not mandatory. That’s at least my current understanding; I would be glad to be enlightened if anything has changed.

Nonsense. I didn’t have to, I would have BEEN ALLOWED TO. But since I am neither a doctor nor a historian nor a lawyer, I didn’t care. (just briefly checked off all the clichés, that has to happen sometimes...)

In a court, it is about law and not about justice. Justice, due to its subjectivity, is hardly negotiable. Bitter.
