Ouch. However, this is in no way apparent from their holiday apartment, which to me is a generous guest room for relatives who, please note, should have finished their Christmas visit by Epiphany at the latest. Could it be that you only viewed the main house live at the exhibition and then ordered the appendix from the catalog without experiencing its dimensions? — sort of like the motto: the side salad doesn’t have to be filling?

Oh, he simply trusts me 100% there, and before I communicated the changes to the planning office, I of course discussed it with him again.

But you can really overdo it... it's not that small after all. And we have such a good relationship that they will very often stay with us anyway.

Absolutely not, it is a very comfortable hotel room. But from a senior’s perspective (I am only in my early 50s, but was a civilian service worker and a caregiving relative) the bathroom is only "large" for a yacht. Especially when grandma and grandpa only "go to their room" to sleep (or if they want to watch a different TV program) but otherwise are part of everyday multi-generational life, it is surprising that the spatial sequence is not designed to support transitions. Most builders here consider the access door between the family and the cars more important than the one between the generations.

I think it's great that the [Mehrgenerationenhaus] is being planned and obviously implemented here by you. We are currently in the process of planning a similar project as well, but with an architect, and the parents are getting a bit more space!

Wishing you every success.

There is no garage here for a change.

Do you really need 6 parking spaces?
Has the appearance of a parking lot

Good. Then there will be no surprises.

Size isn’t everything. Many things that are normal for us and don’t bother us become a problem for seniors at some point.

Reflect a bit. Close your eyes and mentally walk through the house. Live the everyday routine in your imagination.
Draw furniture to scale. Yours and the ones you want.
Write down your requirements.
Also think about practical things.
Where to put cleaning supplies
Where to put garden furniture, sorted-out children’s things, bike, stroller, etc.
Guests with 3 kids
You bring the laundry to the grandparents or want to quickly get an egg

My feeling is that you liked the house and it will somehow, as far as possible, be made suitable.
You removed the recesses. Does it even still work?

You won’t find many multi-generational houses online. Apart from semi-detached houses where most of the main apartment is on the upper floor. You quickly end up with your house provider.
The extension doesn’t look bad. I really like the idea of adding a small bungalow to the main house.
But ...
- the building mass, 2 rectangles instead of squares, would have allowed more room to maneuver
- a missing room is squeezed on the ground floor
- the orientation of the rooms on the upper floor
- missing dry access to the other residential unit
- not nearly senior-friendly. A walk-in shower at floor level is not senior-friendly. Also adapt the bathroom on the ground floor of the main house so that it is accessible with a walker

They didn’t listen to you there.
Likes it, more or less fits, done.

No offense meant. I don’t want to discourage you. Just to stimulate thinking to get the best for you.
Model houses, catalog houses somehow fit 4-person families.
Shoes in size 38 fit, too.
But we are individual. You can see how quickly space becomes tight from your specifications.
Practicality
Guest room
Multi-generational house
With a house you unfortunately can’t just go to sandals with a comfortable footbed and silver straps. It has to be worked out with your partner.
