In the temporary accommodation, it should be quite okay – of course, you only really know once you are there. Hopefully, it will be good in the new place. We have had two plots of land merged and want to build roughly in the middle. This way, we definitely have significantly more space to the neighboring houses on both sides. Possibly, we can even buy a plot directly next door if it is still available by the time we are financially able. They are not particularly expensive. But even if someone else buys it, we’ll still be a good distance away. There, we also have the advantage of being close to family. If someone really annoys me there on a Sunday, theoretically, we can just get in the car and ring the doorbell at the family’s place in the neighboring village with a tray of cake from the bakery. It’s actually always quiet there because of the forest edge. And the thought of being able to do that is nice even when no one is bothering me. ;)

At this point, I'm not really sure what's so bad about the bathrooms and the kitchen. Sure, it looks like grandpa's place, but I don't find anything disgusting about it. It's really just a temporary solution. Installing a new kitchen now, which later won't fit anywhere, seems a bit over the top to me. Especially since you still have an expensive house construction ahead of you.

Oh, the kitchen shown is not the kitchen. That's the laundry room. It's on the wrong floor to become our actual kitchen. The bathroom shown was also just exemplary; we will use it at most as a toilet because quite a few things are leaking there. If you take a shower there, the ceiling in the bathroom below gets wet. :/ The disgust starts when you accidentally walk in without a nose clip. ;)

It may be necessary to remove the carpet. If there is urine inside, I have my doubts whether it will get clean.

So since it’s not going to be your kitchen, why not take out the stove and put the washing machine underneath? You just have to adjust the connections accordingly, but that should normally be possible so that the sink is still usable. Bathroom, as suggested here, paint the walls and paint or re-paper the sloping ceiling. The sink and toilet can be replaced quite easily yourself and are already available at reasonable prices if it can be something simple.

Regarding the carpet in the house, I would probably go this route: get rid of it and then lay simple carpet or simple laminate and that’s it. I think you get more out of it, it’s not that expensive, and for 1–1 1/2 years of use it doesn’t have to be high quality; you can also take a leftover batch (if the quantity fits).

As you said, you don’t want to sink too much money in, but for 1–1 1/2 years you want to feel comfortable during that time. For a new kitchen, I would probably think about Ikea, the cabinets can later be used in the "basement," and simple appliances are enough for the time or you buy the appliances in such a way that they can be transferred to the kitchen in the new building later (at least stove/cooktop/fridge and freezer); the latter two also work well as appliances that later go to the basement or something.

Yes, I have thought the same about the carpet, it really isn't nice anymore, both visually and in terms of smell. This is, for example, in the later dining room. It would definitely be nicer to remove it. Do you think I can manage that as an amateur? I've never laid flooring before, but from what I have seen in our house, how quickly it went and how easy it was to cut and snap vinyl with this cutter, it didn't look that difficult.
