I'm not a structural engineer... but I don't see any load-bearing walls on the upper floor!?

Thank you very much for your ideas. I am really glad about the honest criticism. When I can get back to the computer and have a bit more time, I will try moving some walls around. Unfortunately, I don't get to it during the week, especially because my little owl is currently going through a sleepless in s... phase. We will move the fireplace because it really becomes too tight in that area. Then we can also shift the passage between the kitchen and dining area to the left. We are considering not putting a door there at all, but designing it as an open passage with a rounded arch. The kitchen layout is, of course, still an issue. I haven’t given much thought to cross currents yet, thanks for the tip. At the moment, the seating area by the pantry is actually supposed to be a bench, which I have already imagined as quite cozy. I am still weighing the pros and cons regarding the pantry. It will probably have to give way to the vestibule. But we also still have space in the utility room. If the pantry is removed, other arrangement options will arise. Bathroom planning... yes, we really need to focus on that as well. Moving the stairs, however, will be difficult without turning the entire floor plan upside down. And I find it hard to warm up to half-turned stairs ops:. The bay window in the north is "only" there to provide more space in the living room. Back to the orientation: our current living room only has windows facing east, and we find the lighting sufficient. We also oriented ourselves by that.

Hello dear forum community,

I am done.
However, we are not completely satisfied yet. We think the fireplace has moved to a pretty good position. The bay window is 1.5 meters deep and 3 meters wide inside. A larger table now fits, and we can still get through the terrace door (distance between chairs and wall about 0.7). The windbreak is now wider and not so convoluted anymore. The arrangement in the guest shower bathroom is very tight. The distance between the sink and toilet is 0.3, between the shower and toilet 0.44. Is that really enough? The shower is 0.8 x 0.8.
I redesigned the kitchen according to kbt09's suggestion, but somehow I don't like it. Both the exterior view of the gable with the small window to the garden and the interior. The pantry has given way to the windbreak, even though I'm still not sure whether the cupboard space is sufficient to store supplies properly. The window at the bottom on the south side has become wider. I wanted to look out the window while washing up, so the sink is all the way to the left at the bottom. However, this means the distance to the stove is very large – 3 meters. I think that is too much for reasonable kitchen ergonomics. I seem to have once read something about 1.2 m between stove and sink. I will probably have to redo the entire kitchen planning.
What do you think of the upper floor, especially the bathroom?

I look forward to your comments (if anyone is still inside in this heat ). Now my little one is calling me first.

I'll just say something about the kitchen ... if the room is changed, of course, then the kitchen has to be rethought.

Given the room size and the position of the tall cabinets, I could imagine a complete island placed crosswise in the room, with the work surface overhanging at the bottom left of the plan, featuring a corner bench. And then you could even make a terrace exit from the kitchen on the right side of the plan. But some fine-tuning with the walls would also be necessary.

I still don't understand the upper bay window in the plan.

In general, the statics would also have to be reconsidered. The central upper floor walls do not rest on the central ground floor walls.

: Thanks for your feedback. Kitchen island in the middle of the room? I can't really imagine that. Is it practical if you always have to walk around it? How do you arrange it sensibly? Isn't that more for open floor plans?

Yes, the structural integrity must be checked. We are about to sign the house construction contract, but with a house building company where the architect only looks at it after the contract is signed.

At the moment, I'm thinking of reducing the kitchen in favor of the vestibule and the living room. We'll see when I get back to the computer.

Moin Moin

I didn’t find the first draft very impressive, and by shifting some walls, it hasn’t improved in my opinion.

Probably also due to the location of the stairs, both the bathroom on the upper floor and the kitchen on the ground floor are long and narrow, making them difficult to furnish. In the kitchen, there are long walking distances; in the bathroom, the shower is poorly positioned. It can still be drained with a shower tray and a high floor construction, but it is not possible as a walk-in shower.
The many corners that hinder furnishing are also plentiful in the living and dining areas.

I would start again with a blank sheet of paper and not plan the stairs next to a gable wall.
