I would let the electrician choose the modules. I would organize the network cabinet and equipment myself. Who organizes the blank panel for mounting the modules you need to clarify among yourselves.

From my point of view, it is very important to determine the cable length so that you are flexible with your cabinet.

Does that mean he wouldn't offer you a cabinet at all, or what? So just the two patch panels somewhere on the wall?

He is right. He means patch panels with Keystone modules. Here, "sockets" are basically mounted onto the installation cables and then clicked into the patch panel. The installation is much easier and you can also change the order on the patch panel later if, for example, you have a switch that does not offer PoE on all ports and you want to connect cameras somewhere. Then you simply rearrange on the patch panel and save yourself tangles between the patch panel and the switch. 2x 8 sounds like 10". Definitely avoid that and insist on a 24-port patch panel and a 19" rack. Under no circumstances 10", as that severely limits device selection. Modules from many manufacturers are good. I almost always use Telegärtner, which can be mounted without tools. But that's a matter of taste; he should decide.

Thank you very much for the numerous feedback and tips. I will discuss it with him again and address the [Schrank]. If necessary, I will organize one and mount it on the wall. Whether and what he actually wanted to mount, I don't know right now.

Best regards

I didn’t buy Keystone modules but the deleycon patch panel with 24 ports. He had no problem connecting it and didn’t complain.

I bought a 19-inch rack – he even mounted it on the wall and connected everything neatly – I am completely satisfied so far.

But I would also clearly recommend a 19-inch rack if you have the space in your designated room.
