I always find it a shame when "old school" electricians stuck in the past block the customers' opportunities. But that is still much better than the countless electricians who have euro signs on their foreheads instead of question marks. Such projects are the ones responsible for the "bad reputation" of KNX, that it barely provides any added value in private homes, hardly works at all, and would be very expensive because someone else has to rescue the work of the clueless electrician for a lot of money.

Everyone has a different focus. For me personally, building automation including IT infrastructure is much higher on the list than, for example, the front yard. Both are legitimate.

It always depends on what you want and whether you find someone who can realize the desired thing at a price acceptable to you. I am by no means a nerd when it comes to Smart Home, it is more in the direction of partial "ease of operation." Nevertheless, I want what is done to be implemented properly. For example, that the roller shutter motors are wired in a star configuration and I can install the control centrally from the distribution box. Unfortunately, the star wiring costs me 55€ more per roller shutter/blind, but it is implemented properly and not some under-plaster DIY solution. That way I can consider whether to use the DIN rail Eltakos or even connect a Logo8.

Absolutely correct. Nowadays, one should avoid the rigid and inflexible wiring from grandfather's time and opt for the structured variant. This way, you have all the freedoms and can quickly adjust the cables in the walls in the future if something has changed, something was forgotten, or something new has been invented, as required or needed, without having to tear up the walls.

You can also take a look at Digitalstrom. It doesn't require any extra wiring and can be retrofitted or expanded at any time.

Basically, I have never understood the cost/benefit factor of a smart system in a standard single-family house. 90% install underfloor heating, so heating control is already out of the question. Shading solutions with integration of wind, rain, and sun sensors are available from many manufacturers via radio. The same applies to lighting. If I want, I can even realize a constant lighting control through it. But who would want that in a single-family house? Otherwise, I can't think of anything I could/would want to make smart in the house...

With a constant light control, you really don't impress anyone and it is also not really necessary in a single-family house, but rather intended for offices.

On the other hand, Human Centric Lighting (HCL) is very relevant in single-family houses and is becoming increasingly in demand.

Individual systems usually perform their tasks quite well, such as the heating control or shading solution you mentioned. However, if you want to harmonize these and benefit from their cooperation, it becomes difficult without a common basis, and you end up with the iron in the refrigerator.

That's true, but the cost/benefit factor is not proportional for me.
