Is basically the same, just a bit less logic.

It can only work if an intelligent door handle is used, where the positions can be evaluated. See Hoppe EnOcean window handle. Unfortunately, something like that does not exist for lift-and-slide doors.

You are somewhat on the wrong track, even if the direction is right. The intelligent door handles are not necessary. But yes, it also works with them. However, it is not the only possible way.

Two simple door contacts are enough. With them, you can represent the handle position just as well without having to touch the handle itself in any way. In other words, even for lift-and-slide doors, there are possibilities.

And with a bit more logic, you can also store and predict states and behavior of people so that various applications open up here and there.

The lockout automation is actually a task for an apprentice. There are far more complicated scenarios.

And how exactly do the two door contacts then recognize in which position the handle is?

Simplest digital technology. Pages 2-3 in every textbook.

You can represent 4 states with two input variables. And based on the states, you can deduce in which position the handle is.

What you make out of it is then up to yourself or your own creativity/fantasy. For some, it is unfortunately only enough to report the door open, but it can do much more.

Just imagine if you also build in feedback objects or something like that, or nested elements, or even a storage option...

I think it was more about the door also reporting "closed" when it is merely ajar.
