If one is ignorant, one might argue now that the mortgage is so huge that there’s not enough left for a decent car. I, on the other hand, don’t see it that way. I drive an old car myself. Admittedly a truck, but old. However, you might be right... Because everywhere I look around my area, people drive VW, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, occasionally an older family van or also Renault, Opel etc., and SUVs without end. But I have really very rarely seen a Dacia here in the neighborhood. However, it’s not just people around forty with small children and a dog in my area, but people of all age groups. It’s simply not a (yet) sterile new development area, but an already “established” area. Most here have lived for generations. Plots are rarely sold through the open market.

Well, to get to work I have to be mobile. Then I skip the season ticket and just drive a car. That means instead of 12 km one way, 42 km. Costs arise. Inevitably if I want to stay living here and keep the same job. So the polemic with car doesn't need a season ticket can be directly dismissed.

Reasonable car. What could that be? For some, myself included, mainly an affordable one. By the way, I declined a company car and instead preferred a higher gross salary. I don’t need a new car, whether leased, financed by credit, or through salary conversion.

It’s a matter of priorities. Some might have overextended themselves, that could be. But many around me couldn’t care less about cars. For example, if I look at my relatives in Stuttgart, it’s a completely different picture. There, every secretary seems to drive at least an A-Class with leather and other fancy stuff. Different mentality? No idea.

Afa 100 Tax 10 Insurance 25 (HF + TK) Fuel 50 Maintenance / Repair 30

Okay, that’s 215€ per vehicle.

The advantage of older cars is also that the insurance is cheaper. I don’t need comprehensive insurance, I can always buy two new ones with cash.

That is ridiculous. You can also just eat canned fish and save money.

Anyone who has a nice home also drives a reasonable car and goes out to eat now and then. Sure, a 2-week vacation can also cost 300 euros per person, or 3000 euros per person.

The range is huge, what are we talking about here?

As an average car, I see a Skoda Octavia 2 years old. And it has different costs than described above, since alone the depreciation easily amounts to 200-300 euros per month.

I consider that to be a rumor. At least in many regions.
