A clever parent told me:

"I don't want to be the richest person in the cemetery"

My parents received a lot of gifts from home, unfortunately I did not get any from them. I would have gladly taken something and will also give something to my children.

I think you misunderstood me. I basically wanted to say: Every ugly area (like supposedly Duisburg within a 100km radius) also has its nice sides, and supposed paradises can also seem terribly boring. Generalizations are simply nonsense and usually show ignorance...

How heroic

There is absolutely no reason not to accept support from family.

Of course, no one has to be ashamed of that, I haven’t judged anyone because of it.

Just talked to my parents yesterday. They didn’t really sound “unhappy”. I am currently doing great in my 110 sqm new-build rental apartment, where I live together with my wife for 7 €/sqm cold rent. Living cheaply in rent is also an excellent way to save up equity, especially with corresponding salaries. We are not in a hurry. Good things take time...

7 €/sqm per month * 110 sqm * 12 months = 9240 € rent per year. 9240 € annual loan installment corresponds, with 1% interest + 2% repayment, to a condominium worth 308,000 euros with the same monthly expense of 770 euros. In addition, while rent increases on one side, on the other side the value of the property increases. But hey... to each their own. I understand that this is all somewhat simplified, but under the current monetary policy conditions, it roughly works out, provided you don’t completely misjudge the situation. The ancillary purchase costs are recovered by the appreciation after 3-4 years.
