we definitely want to divide the upper floor so that both children’s rooms face west. As a child, I had a room directly facing south and wasn’t very happy having to darken it all day.

I have been in smaller houses with the same number of rooms and didn’t find the proportions unreasonable.

It’s not about the size of the rooms, but about the position and location that cause the gloominess in the living area. Simply the fact that the room has to be somewhere causes a wall that excludes the sun. In addition, the requirement that the living area must be on the north side and the carport on the west side. If it weren’t so sad, I would laugh. Take a look at the neighboring houses. Why do you think they have such “corners” facing west and why does the neighbor insist that your carport absolutely not be on the east side? The sun is the be-all and end-all. These corners serve to bring it into the living space. You have completely excluded them. Your only south-facing windows are in the hallway, bathroom—and who would have thought—in the office, which has to take the “chocolate spot.” Even upstairs you don’t have a south-facing window. I don’t know, is the ridge direction predetermined? What about the single-story aspect? Is that also mandatory? Your draftsman’s plan corresponds to your wishes. He has solved it quite well. The problem is rather your wishes, and the property simply has boundaries. The discussion about the importance of the sun in living spaces has already taken place here. New homeowners mostly massively underestimate this, or the “cave people” faction tells you that the sun is terrible anyway. Maybe the elephant still remembers one or two and will link them to you. I’ve forgotten.

I completely agree with . The plot also rises towards the north, meaning it takes away some sun/light from the northern rooms. Certainly a great concept for the Maulwurf family.

In addition, the straight staircase, which takes up a lot of space in an already not very large house (see hallway on the upper floor with 11m2), is missing from the other rooms.

Why was the basement (better finished lower ground floor) actually discarded? For cost reasons? Entrance, study, utility room (possibly garage) in the basement. Living area, possibly sleeping on the ground floor and children's rooms (without knee wall, with a 1m dwarf wall) on the upper floor.

Don't think so, why? See (subsequently added) sketch.

I can't find the spot anymore: is there a building envelope? Why not set the house further back? Or a long, narrow house that just touches the building line at the front?
